Bach Competition Leipzig

The Bach Competition Leipzig is regarded as one of the major international competitions for young artists. It took place for the first time in 1950 and was held every four years from 1964 to 1996 with five subjects and is now held every two years with three changing subjects.

The Competition is open for instrumentalists and singers between the ages of 16 and 33. It expects participants to be of a very high standard. They should have a confident stage manner and be experienced at performing the historical style required in the Competition programme. Rehearsal for the Competition programme should always take place using editions based on the original manuscript.

The Bach Comepetition Leipzig is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions, Geneva.

The XIX. Bach Competition Leipzig takes place from July 09–19, 2014 with the subjects piano, harpsichord and violin/baroque violin.
