No 6 The Art of Fugue

J. S. Bach: Contrapuncti 1–12 and Fuga a 3 Soggetti, aus: Die Kunst der Fuge, BWV 1080 · W. A. Mozart: 5 vierstimmige Fugen, KV 405, nach Fugen aus dem Wohltemperierten Klavier, Teil II, von J. S. Bach
Artists: Armida Quartett: Johanna Staemmler (violin), Martin Funda (violin), Teresa Schwamm-Biskamp (viola), Peter-Philipp Staemmler (violoncello)
In the final years of his life, Johann Sebastian Bach devoted himself intensively to contrapuntal studies and wrote a cycle of works – the »Art of Fugue« – the individual components of which are all based on the same theme. The collection is a kind of teaching book on polyphony and was published after Bach’s death, but without any indications of which instruments they were intended for. The prize-winning Armida Quartet, who gave a »climate concert« at the 2022 Bachfest, will not only perform Bach’s complex »contrapuncti«, but also the reflections put to paper by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, an admirer of Bach, while studying the »Well-Tempered Clavier«.
